Beach Detecting – “Gold & Amethyst”

I did this beach last year…lots of signals..but seemed to be trash everywhere..lots of rocks too and the sand was more like cement…so I gave it a miss. But – as part of my motto is “Never Give Up”…I went back. Good decision! Cheers.

Thank you again for your time and message.I have downloaded the Randy Horton e-book information.I am trying to get my head round it now.In time I hope I can master the x terra 70 for wet beach work.
Kind regards and many thanks Royston,Bournemouth.

Hi, Have you read “Understanding Your X-Terra” by Randy Horton – possibly the best single document available that explains “everything” you need to know about getting the most out of your XT. It is a free pdf download. Cheers GL & HH

Hi,thanks so much for your quick reply. Can I ask do you have your own patterns put in on top of beach mode? I’m sure my machine isn’t broken, maybe it’s because I’m not sure how to use it properly.
I would be so pleased if the xt 70 did work on beach ect.
Maybe some one might be able to give me some advice, thank you for your time many thanks,Royston.

Hi mate, if your X-Terra doesn’t seem to be any good may I suggest that if you have it set up correctly and that is the key..then there can only be one reason, it needs to be checked out by a authorized / qualified / experienced service technician or if you can’t get one of those – find an XT 70 owner and compare your unit with his. I’ve been using my XT-70 since they came out. I use mine extensively on the beach and in the water. I recommend the XT-70 for beach / wet sand work. Cheers GH&HH

Yer I remember the first UK large penny I found a year ago, I lost my mind with excitment. It was an 1904 edward peeny and I was so happy. I’ve yet to find a gold ring but Im sure I’ll go crazy then, Great video, happy hunting!!

  7. IrocOn2 says:

I agree – the guy in this video [me] – was more excited about the penny. Why? Well – there is a reason..or two. I wasn’t sure what I had – when I was identifying the ring. Lack of experience at finding gold rings [haven’t found many LOL]. I love Pennies…and the penny was instantly recognizable. Instant excitement evident. LOL Nowadays…I still love Pennies..but my love of finding Silver has taken over. Gold is still a dream – but next time I do…the reaction will be BIG! Cheers GL & HH Ian

  8. Tom The English Picker says:

Once she got the hang of it – the ol XT has been going hard…and loving every minute. Nowadays…it’s Penny & Silver Heaven – Yea! Cheers and thanks GL & HH

  11. jim gap says:

OK…that’s the first time I’ve heard one of the most popular beaches on the Mornington Peninsula described in that way..interesting comment. Glad you enjoyed the video…anyways…

  18. Bullet Witch says:

You call that a beach? Thats just mud and dead bodies with sand on the top! Thanks for the vid anyways….

  19. IrocOn2 says:

Thanks mate – what scares me – is when I find the next one – might have to set my EPIRB to Auto to send the alert out…man down..send help quick. I am so looking forward to the next one. Cheers GL & HH

  20. tatman16 says:

Love the vid mate, i’ve never seen someone so thrilled over a penny , keep enjoying your digs it beats veging in front of the TV.

  21. fluoridekid says:

That’s the point of metal detecting, you never know what’s going to turn up. We’ve all experienced ‘the day of the pull tab’ , sounds like a movie title and it’s certainly a nightmare. Good hunting :D

  22. IrocOn2 says:

Thanks – yes – this was one of the magic days. Days like this one will always be the dream days we detectorists live for. The great thing is – I know how this day [and other special days] compare to those days when I go out and find a rusted bolt and a pull tab. Yea! Cheers.

  23. fluoridekid says:

Great video and what seemed to be a fruitful day for you. The ring was the icing on the cake… Very well done and thanks for sharing.

  24. Kevin Niefer says:

  25. IrocOn2 says:

Hi darz3 – Thanks – yes, I love it – the Amethyst stones are such a rich color purple – I’m going to get this one professionally cleaned and straightened up by a jeweler mate of mine. Cheers.
